Marcos Díaz swims uniting the continents to raise the voices of the world and show that we are not that far apart. His purpose is to bring global attention to the Millennium Development Goals and invite people to act and demand that our leaders keep their promises by 2015.
This project sparked from an interest to show the world that through the efforts of one man we can connect people, communities and the continents, and thus demand that our leaders honor the commitments they made when they signed the Millennium Development Goals in the year 2000.
This project will develop by accomplishing five journey throughout the world
1st Crossing
Marcos completed the first phase of the Swim Across the Continents project on May 15, 2010, uniting Oceania with Asia, from Papua New Guinea to Indonesia. The duration of the swim was 4 hours, 18 minutes and 17 seconds, with a distance of 19.5 km.
2nd Crossing
The second crossing of the Swim Across the Continents Project was completed successfully by Marcos Diaz on June 20, 2010, connecting Asia to Africa from the shores of Jordan to Egypt, a journey never before undertaken. The duration of the swim was 4 hours, 54 minutes and 32 seconds and the distance was 18.3 km.
3rd Crossing
The third crossing uniting Africa to Europe was completed successfully on July 30, 2010. Marcos Diaz was able to unite Europe to Africa swimming across the Strait of Gibraltar with a total time of 2 hours 41 minutes.
4th Crossing
The fourth crossing will complete the connection of the 5 continents, uniting Europe to the American continent, from Russia to Alaska.
5th Crossing
Marcos will swim to the headquarters of the United Nations during the UN summit in September 2010, where he will deliver a book filled with the names of the people that supported the project to Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations. This book will also be given to all world leaders gathered there in a symbolic act so that they know that the world is watching the fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals.
